patience is all needed

since a week ago, I have been transferring my basic words to these kids whom have been placed in the fourth class, the weakest amongst all. it's tiring to keep drilling them with few basic words I want them to remember forever. these kids are all going to sit for examination in august yet you’ll be surprised to know their basic words are too limited.

last week I brought a set of flash cards; my first words and drilled them with spelling and pronunciation. at this age, they are supposed to master words like table, bag, pencil, belt, sun yet even these are hard enough to majority.  so during each class I use vary ways to make sure they remember the words and understand what it means. I let them stand and spell the words each in the beginning of every lesson. sometimes, I wrote misspelt words and let them correct. I allow them to go back in the afternoon only if they could tell me the meaning of certain words. these have been repeated on daily basis.

this week I added few more new words and keep repeating them again. I almost gave up when even after hard drilling I did with them, many still couldn’t get words like in, on, under and behind correct. forget about using only English in class because translation is a must for every word I wrote on blackboard. or uttered. you’ll see blackboard – papan hitam, basket – bakul sampah, table – meja etc. yes, those words they didn’t and most of them still don’t know until today.

but this strikes me in an instant. a boy in class in his happy mood told me that he felt like his English is improving and is very happy about it. when I asked why, he said that he can now understand what he writes. of course, that happens because translation takes place at all lesson so it helps him to understand. but for a kid who once didn’t know what the word table is, it is such a huge achievement to be able to raise his hand and proudly tell me what the word means when I asked.

it may look impossible, yet all is possible with hard work. let’s work together.

dream high

adrenaline rush hit one more time. I fled thousand miles from home, just to spare myself some fun and love. I was at a city where love is most cherished, people were very friendly and food was really good.  I enjoyed spending couple of hours just staring at the spectacular structure standing high, which I thought was very masculine. and jumped with joy after thousand of photos snapped with the only one background. this is the city I met fun and found love.

that, which is just so beautiful was only a dream. I was nowhere but home. but last night what I had was unusual. couldn't it mean something else?

so much of a month

so it’s a big one month today. straight away ponder what is going to happen eleven months from now? wow, thats a long way to go. I’ll keep you updated, so stay tune.

by the way starting from tonight, I’ll have my tuesday and wednesday nights occupied with the kids. as for tonight, I got things prepared earlier and knew pretty well what to deliver. yet thing doesn’t always go well as planned, don’t they? in the middle of the lesson, I realize if only I change a step of the lesson, things would be better. thats okay, the quote below has been a good therapy.

‘You may not always succeed, but it's a good exercise to fail and try again right away!’

some memories are just too precious  to erase so they stick in mind until today. like this idea of having night class reminds me when I was at their age. unforgettable ones like mum joined my English class to also learn so that she could help me with the homework later is still clearly pictured. still remembered that I was so conscious she sat at the back, so I kept checking what she did and failed miserably to pay attention. haha we also lived quite far from home, ayah went to and fro by motorcycle to send and pick me up every time we had classes at night. they never complained.

these things make me so grateful; for having dear parents and dedicated teacher who worked hard to help me achieve success. it drives me to make use of every minute with the kids wisely. they deserve to have the chance I had before, so I’ll do my best to make sure they'll get gain it too.

a promise made

while the explanation took place in front, I googled something more fun to read at the back. like these (picture above and quote below).

“A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between, he does what he wants to do and enjoys it.”  - Bob Dylan, a songwriter.

so do I get to do what I want to do in life and enjoy mine?

I always have vision of how my life should be or what I want to achieve in life. well, not very vividly. hey at least I have them pictured in mind. yeah, obviously no one want to lead a dull, unhappy, unexciting type of life, don't you? by the way, it's too early to say anything much about work regardless. the thing I'm very sure is workload are piling up, doing its best job - to test my capability as a newcomer. I can feel thousand of things related to school are swimming in head asking for attention right now.

so after a deep thought, I came into a conclusion. a decision. for whatever thing or reason regarding work that could make me sink in an instant, I won't allow them to take my life away at any cost. NEVER. you hear me, don't you? so have that stick in mind before playing around, people.

personally, I feel life is just more beautiful if we can do what we love and love what we do.

well spent

time flies fast like a bullet train, a week holiday gone in a blink of eye. it started off with evening leisure driving with siblings after getting kfc crushers each and it was just what I needed. they know why. met a girl friend on saturday night after a last minute decision to attend her sister’s wedding. thank you very much. I love you family. it was indeed unique yet beautiful to have wedding at night and with fireworks sparked on the night sky to welcome the bride and groom. love love the deco and door gift too. done with medical check up and  makcik kat bilik xray was super friendly.

went back to kampung on sunday and it was black out the two nights we were there. nasib baik sekejap. mum was (still is!) very proud of her lime tree at the back of the house because limes are everywhere. and they are big too. we had lime with asaam boi juice almost every day due to my obsession towards the drink. had her storied about my late tok wan about his gardening skill on the way back home. I miss you tokwan and may Allah bless your soul.

escaped to penang for a very short vacation at batu feringhi. for the first time, we didn’t do much except for eating and swimming which was really relaxing. grabbed late lunch at pizza and headed home to later realize we had indoor flood in kitchen, dining hall and two of the bedrooms area. it was from washing machine tab. little one’s books are most affected so we dried them all under the sun the next day. the second went back early; on friday as she’ll be sitting for mock this monday while my turn was at night. as far as I know, I don’t have car sickness yet I took two travel pills to allow me to sleep last night. drove back to current home and occupied myself with works so I won’t think too much. failed sebenarnya. I still miss home.

the end. school begins tomorrow.

paying attention

little things made me smiling big.

it's exam week, so no teaching and learning takes place. this morning, I entered a year 1 class and set them a mathematics task to finish in an hour time. in the first task, they were required to draw 4 big boxes on an blank paper and they have to draw pictures (can be anything, and they were so creative!) based on number written inside the box. I checked with them again, and when they seemed to know what they were supposed to do, I let them start drawing. little did I know, some of them still have issues with their penmanship skill. they found drawing a proper box is a big task to handle. so I got them standing around me, showed them how to do it from the beginning; from holding the pencil with their right hand and ruler on the left hand and started making a line. then I demonstrated how they should turn their ruler so that all the lines would meet each other and make a beautiful square box. then, I let them try on their own papers. later, they were very proud to show me that they now are able to make a beautiful square too.

year 2 students were answering PAI paper when a boy approached me saying that he didn't understand what was written down on paper. assuming that he don't know how to read in jawi, I asked him to read the malay one as there is translation for every sentence. only then, I know the problem. he couldn't read well even in malay, thats why he found problem answering the questions. so I let him sitting next to me, guided him with his reading. and it surprised me when he was actually able to answer all the questions correct. it shows that he did know the answer, yet due to his inability to read well, he was struggle to answer one. if he didn't approach me and ask, he might get the answers wrong and it was such a waste.

small effort makes big change, no?

hero mum

this is one of the reasons why prophet Muhammad SAW asks us to love a mother three times before a father. which reminds me of a song by Yusuf Islam, my mother.

Who should I give my love to?My respect and my honor toWho should I pay good mind to?After Allah, And Rasulullah*Comes your motherWho next? Your motherWho next? Your motherAnd then your father

Cause who used to hold youAnd clean you and clothes youWho used to feed you?And always be with youWhen you were sickStay up all nightHolding you tightThat's right no otherYour mother (My mother)

Who should I take good care of?Giving all my loveWho should I think most of?After AllahAnd Rasulullah

*Cause who used to hear youBefore you could talkWho used to hold you? Before you could walkAnd when you fell who picked you upClean your cutNo one but your motherMy mother

Who should I stay right close to?Listen most toNever say no toAfter AllahAnd Rasulullah

*Cause who used to hug youAnd buy you new clothescomb your hairAnd blow your noseAnd when you cryWho wiped your tears?Knows your fearsWho really cares? My mother

Say AlhamdulillahThank you AllahThank you AllahFor my mother.

a beautiful lyric I found from MetroLyrics.com

and I thank Allah for His blessing I have, my mother.and father :)

message in a dream

everything seemed to be so real.
he came alive the other night, and left me with uncertain feelings to describe.

Dear You,

if it's a way of You giving comfort and assurance of what will happen in future, please ease my way towards it. but if this is just a test, please ease me to let it go. amin.

friends & fun

1.  it was raining the whole weekend, but we were still determined to go out and enjoyed the days.

2. drove to kuala terengganu two days in a row just for the fun of it.

3. experienced hard time searching for batik in pasar payang (not for me obviously!). most of the them are so bright and eye catching, which I'll have to think twice to wear.

4. we have discovered two beaches; batu burok beach and teluk ketapang beach. teluk ketapang is so spectacular with its white sandy beach and beautiful scenery!

5. enjoyed dinner by the sea twice. were so lucky the makcik at yesterday's stall was so kind to give promotion to our food. I only paid for my bihun tomyam, the drink was free.

6. bumped into a junior in high school at the mosque in the middle of the town. she's studying maritim in UMT. such a small world!

7. watched movie at home and had fun making critical review about it.

8. we never ran out of stories, which is why we talked and laughed a lot!

9. next weekend's routine will be different, as we'll be spending time at home with family! :)
